Meeting America 's Energy Challenge

CEI's 31st Annual Community Salute to the Environment

Wednesday October 12th, 6:00-9:30, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Rochester, NY

America ’s energy policy, and strategies to improve it, will be a focus of the 31st annual Community Salute to the Environment, Wednesday October 12 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rochester .  Sponsored by the Center for Environmental Information (CEI), the program will feature Paul Bledsoe, Director of Communications and Strategy for the National Commission on Energy Policy.  Bledsoe will speak on “Ending the Energy Stalemate, a Bipartisan Strategy to meet America ’s Energy Challenges.”  A reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner and the program.

“I look forward to discussing the Energy Commission's recent recommendations, and the broader state of play in Washington on critical and increasingly timely energy and environmental issues,” said Bledsoe. “It's an honor to be invited by the Center for Environmental Information to address this significant issue and the Rochester Community Salute to the Environment is the perfect forum to review the subject.”

The Commission has made key recommendations about enhancing oil security, reducing risks from climate change, improving energy efficiency, expanding energy supplies, strengthening energy supply infrastructure and developing energy technologies for the future.

Corydon Ireland , former Environment Reporter for the Democrat and Chronicle, will be honored with CEI’s Environmental Leadership Award.  From water and air quality to organic gardening, Ireland has spent the past seventeen years educating the public and promoting awareness on an array of environmental issues important to the well being and quality of life of the citizens of Monroe County .

The Center will also celebrate the silver anniversary of the Hugh E. Coming Environmental Quality Award.  Each year the award is presented to an individual, group or organization that has made a significant contribution to environmental protection, improvement or education in the Rochester-Genesee-Finger Lakes region.  The award winner will be announced that evening.

Paul Bledsoe previously served as Communications Director of the White House Climate Change Task Force, adviser to Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt, and Communications Director of the Senate Finance Committee under the chairmanship of the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
