Since 30% of air toxics, or Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPS), in the Rochester region come from small stationary sources such as small industries and businesses in urban neighborhoods, the Rochester CARE Program led by the Rochester Green Business Network (RGBN), designed and implemented a program that identified and prioritized these small stationary sources, and provided direct technical assistance to those selected sectors in order to measurably reduce their toxic air emissions.
Through a prioritization process by local and regional experts printers located within the City of Rochester were selected as the focus industry sector for a pollution prevention program including on-site technical assistance and educational outreach.
We have been in the process of contacting local printers with respect to offering on-site pollution prevention (P2) assistance and expects to publish case studies summarizing the work at a later date . In addition, a workshop on environmental, health & safety issues including pollution prevention and sustainability was held at RIT on April 26th 2007 in partnership with the RIT School of Print Media, RIT Business School, the Specialty Graphics Industry Association and the NYS Printing & Imaging Association.
